Microbial degradation of peptidoglycan in seawater
A constituent of the bacterial cell wall, peptidoglycan, has been suggested to be a significant fraction of marine dissolved organic matter, but little is known about its turnover. We measured hydrolysis and remineralization rates of peptidoglycan in surface waters by using radiolabeled peptidoglycan that was extracted from a Gram-negative bacterium. Polysaccharide (N-acetyl-glucosamine and N-a...
متن کاملRuminal Protein Degradation and Estimation of Rumen Microbial Protein Production
Animal agricultural production systems are major sources of nonpoint pollution affecting quality of water sources. Nitrogen has been identified as the foremost source of nonpoint water pollution and the potential negative impacts of N have become an area of public concern. protein degradation from feed ingredients is an important factorinfluencing AA supply to the duodenum. Ruminal proteolysis...

متن کاملMicrobial Degradation of Asphalt.
Organisms of the genera Pseudomonas, Chromobacterium, and Bacillus capable of degrading asphalt were isolated by enrichment cultures. The asphalt degradation by these organisms varied from 3 to 25% after incubation for 1 week. The effects of temperature, pH, and atmosphere of incubation on asphalt degradation were investigated and were shown to vary with different organisms on the same substrate.
متن کاملMicrobial degradation of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane.
The microbial degradation of low-molecular-weight polydimethylsiloxanes was investigated through laboratory experiments. Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane was found to be biodegraded under anaerobic conditions in composted sewage sludge, as monitored by the occurrence of the main polydimethylsiloxane degradation product, dimethylsilanediol, compared to that found in experiments with sterilized contr...
